Sadyr Japarov disagrees with claims of authoritarianism in Kyrgyzstan

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov disagrees with views on the establishment of authoritarianism in Kyrgyzstan. He stated this today at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to him, Kyrgyzstan is not deviating from the democratic path. «We proved this in the last parliamentary elections,» the president said.

«The elections were held honestly, transparently and on the basis of democratic principles. Administrative resources were not used, not a single state employee intervened. Kyrgyzstan remained a country strictly adhering to the principles of democracy in Central Asia. We are not afraid of opinions about the establishment of authoritarianism in Kyrgyzstan, we are ready to refute this,» he said.

In particular, the international organization Civicus Monitor announced strengthening of authoritarianism during the presidency of Sadyr Japarov. «In Central Asia, governments continue to restrict the already limited space for civil society, often deploying tactics of harassment and intimidation against journalists and HRDs,» the organization said.
