EU allocates €21.65 million to strengthen borders in Central Asia

The European Union has allocated €21.65 million for a border management programme in Central Asia. Representatives of the Programme on Border Management in Central Asia reported.

According to them, the 10th phase of the programme is the largest initiative in the region. It started on April 1, 2021, the implementation period is 54 months.

EU Special Representative for Central Asia Terhi Hakala noted that the programme reflects the spirit of cooperation between the European Union and the Central Asian countries.

It is noted that finding a balance between border control to ensure border security and assistance in reducing crime, facilitation of legal border crossing and trade is a difficult task.
