Kyrgyzstan announces need to remove barriers to trade in CIS

«Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to the issues of increasing the level of transport logistics, development of railway infrastructure and, of course, elimination of barriers in ensuring the international transportation of passengers and goods,» the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov said at a regular meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) , which took place in format of a video conference.

According to him, Kyrgyzstan is a landlocked country due to its geographical location. It is extremely important for the republic to improve transport corridors and bring them out of economic isolation. Therefore, the Kyrgyz Republic stands for building up the transport and transit potential of the CIS countries, taking into account the interests of all member states of the Commonwealth, as well as the emerging international transport systems in terms of railway transport.

«To date, Kyrgyzstan has access only to the railways of the CIS countries, in particular Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, in freight and passenger railway communication. Therefore, solution of this problem is of great importance for us. The Kyrgyz side is also considering the implementation of international projects on the construction of new railways as one of the priorities in this direction,» Akylbek Japarov said.

He also separately noted the successful implementation of the Interstate Target Program for the reclamation of areas affected by uranium mining.

The program provides for the reclamation of tailings, including in two settlements in Kyrgyzstan.

The work has already been completed in one of them (Kadzhi-Sai village, Issyk-Kul region), the site has been brought into a radiation-safe state. This year it is planned to complete construction work at tailings in Min-Kush village, Naryn region. Therefore, the republic is interested in the further implementation of this interstate program.

«Another equally important area of our interaction is innovative cooperation, which is more and more in demand from year to year. We also attach great importance to the «digital agenda» of the Commonwealth, development of the «digital economy» and formation of common rules for conducting digital trade,» the head of the Cabinet said.

He reminded that digital integration is an important tool for the sustainable development of the economic, socio-political, cultural and spiritual spheres of the life of the states, as well as improving the system of public administration and ensuring national security. «In the context of globalization, it is important for our countries to unite efforts and continue work on the development and implementation of new innovative projects in all priority areas of activity within the CIS,» Akylbek Japarov concluded.
