Kyrgyzstan intends to follow path of ‘green’ economy development

«Kyrgyzstan intends to follow the path of development of ‘green’ economy, gradually abandoning traditional sources of energy, goods and services that harm the environment and increase risks to health and life of people,» the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Ulukbek Maripov said at a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Great Britain to Kyrgyzstan Charles Garrett and the UNDP Resident Representative in Kyrgyzstan Louise Chamberlain.

Within the framework of implementation of the Paris Agreement with the support of international partners at the national level, work is being carried out to combat climate change, including reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Charles Garrett informed about the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change which is to be held in November 2021 in Glasgow (Scotland).

«Kyrgyzstan has great opportunities to attract the attention of international climate organizations in order to raise financial resources for implementation of projects aimed at improving the climatic situation in the republic,» he stressed.

Louise Chamberlain also added that UNDP is supporting countries around the world in developing a strategy for the long-term development of a country with low greenhouse gas emissions, and also informed that the conference would become an effective platform for announcing plans for ensuring climate security at the international level.
