Witnesses in Askarbek Shadiev’s case refuse to come to court

The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek is considering a criminal case against ex-deputy of Parliament Askarbek Shadiev.

Prior to the court hearing, the prosecutor stated that all witnesses had been properly notified. However, they refuse to come to court because of the long journey.

As a result, the court made a decision to forcibly bring witnesses.

Askarbek Shadiev is suspected of abuse of office. According to investigators, he, being the head of the parliamentary committee on international affairs, indicated inaccurate information on whereabouts of $30,000 (Chingiz Aitmatov Prize, awarded by IPA CIS). The head of the department of this committee, Arsen Zakirov, has been arrested. Askarbek Shadiev fled the republic and was put on the international wanted list. The trial takes place without the main defendant.
