«On May 10, 1993, our country was one of the first countries in the post-Soviet space, which put into circulation the national currency — som that became a correct and timely decision,» the President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov said at the International Conference in honor of the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the national currency.
According to him, over the past 25 years, som has undergone a difficult development path, withstanding repeated severe examinations of global economic crises. Monetary sovereignty allowed to restrain inflation and prevent significant depreciation of som, and the banking and payment systems proved their stability and reliability.
Today, the Kyrgyz som established itself. It is one of the most stable currencies in the post-Soviet space.

«Som became not only the main instrument of independent monetary policy, but also a symbol of the independence of a sovereign state. Looking back, we realize that the presence of the national currency played an important role in the formation of sovereign Kyrgyzstan,» said Sooronbai Jeenbekov.
«Economic security and stability of the banking and payment systems, independent financial planning and regulation are the incomplete list of advantages that Kyrgyzstan has gained with the introduction of its own currency,» the head of state concluded.
