Almazbek Atambaev to meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres

Within the framework of participation in the UN General Assembly, Almazbek Atambayev will meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. This was reported by the Information Policy Department of the President’s Office.

According to it, the head of state will speak at the general debate of the General Assembly, the main deliberative body of the United Nations. The theme of the current debate is «Focusing on People — Striving for Peace and a Decent Life for All on a Sustainable Planet».

The head of state will also attend a special high-level meeting on the issues of uranium heritage in the countries of Central Asia. The event is held at the initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic, the European Union and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. It will discuss the problems of uranium tailings, measures for their reclamation and prevention of radiation threats in Kyrgyzstan and the Central Asian region as a whole.

The President will also take part in the high-level meeting held by the United Nations Development Program and the UN Peacebuilding Support Office on «Sustainable development goals in action: led and owned by the country,» the press service said.
