Government aimed at making Kumtor not political project

«From now on, the government aims at making Kumtor not a political project,» Sapar Isakov, the head of the Cabinet, said at a ceremony of signing a new agreement between Centerra and the Kyrgyz government.

According to him, the agreements between the government and the company will come into force after certain procedures. The Prime Minister is sure that after this the relations will restart.

«The Government of Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to the environment. It is important for us what will remain in place of the mine after the closure of Kumtor. The priority for us is that the work of Kumtor to bring real benefits to the people of our country. Therefore, I would like to thank the Centerra leadership for their counter-moves. This is only the beginning of the way. A new stage in relations opens before us. We must prove to everyone that we can work as partners, we can negotiate,» Sapar Isakov concluded.
