Almazbek Atambayev tells about army's weapons

The country’s leadership had sold weapons of the Army for a pittance, and some of them still make statements. The President Almazbek Atambayev announced at the ceremony dedicated to the 25^th anniversary of the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan.

According to him, the words of the country’s leaders that the country did not need the Army in the 1990s broke the spirit of officers and soldiers and inflicted enormous damage to the Armed Forces.

We saw the results of this attitude during the Batken events, when a small bandit formation in 1999 was opposed by 4,623 soldiers and an officer, in 2000, they were opposed by 6,675 soldiers and officers. In 1999, 18 servicemen were killed, in 2000 — 31.

As he noted, in 2011, on the 20^th anniversary of independence, they wanted to hold a military parade, but the existing equipment was in such a deplorable state that some cars could not reach the square.

«Therefore, the military reform, the need to raise the army of Kyrgyzstan to its feet was among the first tasks," Almazbek Atambayev said.
