Accused of attempt to seize power in Kyrgyzstan sentenced to 20, 12 and 4 years

Today, Pervomaisky District Court announced the verdict against Bektur Asanov, Dastan Sarygulov, Kubanychbek Kadyrov and Ernst Karybekov, who were accused of attempt to seize power in Kyrgyzstan by force.

Dastan Sarygulov was sentenced to 4 years in prison, 3 of which is suspended sentence, and was released in the courtroom. Bektur Asanov was sentenced to 12 years in a penal colony. Kubanychbek Kadyrov was sentenced to 12 years in a penal colony. Ernst Karybekov, in total, was sentenced to 20 years with confiscation of property and serving the sentence in a penal colony with reinforced regime.

The time for calculating the punishment for convicts begins on March 24, 2016, the judge said. The sentence can be appealed within 10 days.

After the announcement of the verdict, Bektur Asanov shouted that they were convicted without evidence and that this was a decision not of the judge, but of the president. «Victory will be ours!» he shouted after the announcement of the verdict.

Bektur Asanov and Kubanychbek Kadyrov were convicted of attempt to forcibly seize power, Ernst Karybekov — of conducting subversive activities in the sphere of water and energy complex in the interests of the neighboring country — the Republic of Uzbekistan.
