Kyrgyzstan bans extremist websites

In 2016, Kyrgyz courts banned and restricted access to 86 websites that promote the ideas of extremism and terrorism. Information Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan reported.

According to it, the Prosecutor General’s Office together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Committee for National Security submitted to the court 13 statements on blocking websites that disseminate extremist information.

The prosecuting authorities on the control over the execution of laws countering extremism and terrorism, as well as ethnic hatred have carried out 203 checks in 2016. As a result, 178 action orders, 76 orders to eliminate violations of the normative legal acts have been drawn up.

At least 63 officials were warned about the inadmissibility of violation of the law, six decisions on opening disciplinary proceedings were made. About 219 officials were brought to disciplinary responsibility on acts of prosecutorial response.

Measures on the execution of the court’s decision to ban the work of the websites were assigned to the State Committee for National Security, the Ministry of Interior and the State Committee for Information Technology and Communications, statement says.
