Monument to hero of Chingiz Aitmatov’s “The White Steamship” unveiled in Hungary

A monument to the hero of The White Steamship, a novel by prominent Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov, has been unveiled in Hungary. The Ministry of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

The monument was installed in DunaFok Szabadidőpark, a recreational park located in Budapest’s 22nd district, at the initiative of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Hungary.

The main goal of the project is to promote Chingiz Aitmatov’s literary heritage internationally, as well as to strengthen cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and Hungary.

Special attention during the event was paid to preparations for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Chingiz Aitmatov’s birth, which will be marked internationally in 2028.
