The building of the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy (VDNKh) in Bishkek will be demolished. The head of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Japarov told to journalists.
He recalled that the territory and buildings were leased for 49 years to a foreign investor, who promised to implement various projects, but did nothing, and the facilities eventually became dilapidated.
Akylbek Japarov confirmed that a congress hall will be built on the site of the demolished VDNKh complex. Earlier, the head of the Department of Presidential Affairs Kanybek Tumanbaev shared this information with the media. It is planned that the SCO summit will be held there in 2026.
VDNKh is located next to the new building of the presidential administration Yntymak-Ordo.
The VDNKh of the Kirghiz SSR was established in 1947 to showcase the main achievements of industry, agriculture, transport and science, as well as the cultural lifestyle of the republic. In 1956, the livestock exhibition was renamed into VDNKh. It occupied an area of 110 hectares, of which just over 30 hectares were allocated for primary use, the remaining space was occupied by vineyards and orchards of fruit trees. There was also an arboretum, which had about 60 species of trees and shrubs. Among them were various species of spruce, pine, juniper, biota, thuja, birch, rowan, oleaster, rose, sycamore and others. More than 20 species of flowers were grown on the territory of the exhibition.
