Shigeru Ishiba elected new Prime Minister of Japan

The Parliament elected the new 102nd Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, today, October 1, Kyodo news agency reports.

A day earlier, on September 30, it was reported that the Cabinet of Japan, headed by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, had resigned.

Shigeru Ishiba was elected Chairman of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party on September 27 and is known as one of the most experienced politicians in Japan. Previously, he held the posts of Minister of Defense, Minister of Agriculture, and Minister for Local Economic Revitalization.

After his election, Shigeru Ishiba emphasized that he wants to make Japan a safe country, where everyone can live peacefully. He also proposed holding early parliamentary elections on October 27 in order to gain support from the people for the new government.
