New passport control rules for foreigners to be introduced at Moscow airports

New passport control rules for foreign citizens will come into force at Moscow airports — Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo — from October 1, 2024. These changes include mandatory photographing and fingerprinting. Air carriers reported.

The new rules will apply to all foreign citizens, with the exception of diplomats, employees of international organizations and children under six. Foreign passengers will have to go through these procedures both upon arrival and upon departure.

«As part of the new measures, equipment for scanning faces and fingerprints has been installed at all passport control points,» the statement says.

Airlines urge people to arrive at airports in advance to undergo pre-flight control in a timely manner.

It was reported at the end of August that the experiment on photo and fingerprint verification of foreign citizens entering Russia would come into force on December 1. At the same time, it was said that the pilot project would begin at Moscow airports.
