Finance Ministry of Kyrgyzstan increases internal public debt

Deputy Minister of Finance of Kyrgyzstan Umutzhan Amanbaev said at a meeting of the Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Subsoil Use and Industrial Policy of the Parliament that the ministry was increasing the share of internal debt in the total amount of public debt.

He explained that in this way the money remains within the country and returns to the budget in the form of taxes and dividends. Thus, according to him, the size of the internal debt currently amounts to 30 percent of the total public debt.

And the total amount of public debt, according to Amanbaev, is 43.7 percent of GDP. Last year, the size of the public debt was 45.5 percent of GDP. The deputy minister did not announce the amounts.

The volume of gross domestic product in 2023, according to the report of the Ministry of Finance, reached 1,228,898,800 trillion soms.

The Deputy Minister added that, according to the Finance Ministry’s forecasts, by 2028-2029 the amount of public debt will decrease to 26 percent of the GDP level.
