During the Olympic Games in Paris, 90 newborn children in Kyrgyzstan were named after Kyrgyz athletes, who won medals. The Ministry of Digital Development reported.
According to the ministry, 37 boys were named Akzhol, 15 girls were named Aisuluu. At least 14 girls were named Meerim, 12 boys were named Zholaman, 9 girls were named Aiperi, and one child was named Munarbek.
The Ministry of Digital Development believes that these names did not become popular exactly during the Olympics. These are traditional and common Kyrgyz names. The ministry also clarified that there are no confirmed facts that babies born on these days were named after Kyrgyz athletes.
Muslim names have remained popular in Kyrgyzstan in recent years. About 60,000 children were born in the first half of 2024 in the country. The most popular names for them were Saliha and Muhammad.
