State to finance eight student startups in Kyrgyzstan

The Council for Coordinating the Implementation of Student Startup pilot program decided to provide financial support to eight projects. The Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan reported.

A total of 158 applications from students from 21 universities and 3 colleges were received as part of Student Startup competition. Applications were considered at three stages — selection of a working group, an independent expert group and an engineering expert group. In the finals, students defended startup projects in such areas as information and digital technologies, medical technologies, biotechnologies, agricultural technologies, green economy, and creative industries.

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov noted that student startup projects take an important place in the development of the country’s economy.

«Along with putting forward strict requirements, we are ready to create good conditions for projects recognized as winners. Because it’s easy to allocate money, but difficult to implement and withstand competition,» the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers said.

At least 10 million soms are allocated from the republican budget for the development of student startup projects. Of these, 3,160,744 soms will be allocated to eight startup projects recognized as winners.
