The Ministry of Digital Development of Kyrgyzstan will work with Meta Platforms to block some social media content. Director of the Service for Regulation and Supervision in the Communications Industry under the Ministry of Digital Development Zhibek Abdullaeva announced at a meeting of the Committee on Transport, Communications, Architecture and Construction of the Parliament.
Deputies considered a bill of a deputy Jamila Isaeva, which provides for a ban on the publication of information harmful to children on social networking sites and in the media.
Deputy Tazabek Ikramov asked what restrictions the ministry could impose on social media and how the bill would be enforced.
«TikTok, Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook are part of the Meta organization. We have to draw up an agreement with this company. Further, five people who speak English well are selected from our country and they are given the right from Meta to block certain pages. If the Ministry of Culture decides that this or that information is incorrect, then these five people have the right to restrict the specified content,» Zhibek Abdullaeva said.
