Health Ministry receives 1,000 packages of insulin as humanitarian aid

Medco International LLC sent a thousand packages of insulin to the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan as a humanitarian aid for children with diabetes. The ministry’s press center reported.

The project was organized thanks to the joint efforts of the management of the ministry and the company. The humanitarian aid will be distributed among children across the country.

The Ministry of Health also held a tender for the purchase of insulin, delivery of the first batch is expected in the near future.

Recall, parents of children suffering from type 1 diabetes contacted 24.kg new agency in early March. They complained that their stocks of insulin had run out. Children were being transferred to insulin designed for adults, which is fraught with consequences.

The department said that the limited supply of drugs such as Levemir and NovoRapid was observed only in Bishkek, where a high level of internal migration of patients with diabetes is registered. The mentioned drugs are available in sufficient quantities in the regions. The head of the Ministry of Health, Gulnara Baatyrova, admitted that the state does not allocate enough money to provide the population with insulin.

It was reported in April that the patients with type 2 diabetes in the capital can not get Protaphane — restrictions were imposed due to its shortage.

Kyrgyzstan faced the same problem last year. In May, patients began to complain about the lack of insulin. The Ministry explained the delay in supply of the drug by the increase in shipment terms by the manufacturing plant itself and disruption of the tender in February.
