The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic noted that, if necessary, appropriate monetary policy instruments are used to smooth out sharp fluctuations in the exchange rate. At the same time, the central bank on January 14-15 monitored the work of commercial banks and exchange offices. It was found out that they have enough foreign currency in cash to provide settlement and cash services to customers.
The foreign currency is sold to the population at the rates displayed at the information stand.
«In order to comply with the standards and prevent speculative transactions/abuse by persons involved in the sale and purchase of currency in the secondary market, internal limits on the amounts of cash foreign currency sales are possible. The National Bank will continue to monitor the situation in the foreign exchange market,» the statement says.
