Kyrgyzstan imposes ban on export of foreign currency in cash

A temporary ban has been imposed on the export of cash foreign currency from Kyrgyzstan until a decision is made by the Cabinet of Ministers. The corresponding decision was signed by the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Japarov.

It was adopted to ensure financial and economic security, stabilize the situation in the domestic foreign exchange market, as well as protect the national interests of the republic.

The temporary ban has been imposed for:

  • Non-residents and foreign citizens in the amount of more than $5,000 in cash;
  • Residents and citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic in the amount of more than $10,000 in cash.

«In case residents and citizens of Kyrgyzstan export cash U.S. dollars in excess of $10,000, a fee of 10 percent of the amount exceeding the established limit is charged. The Border Service of the State Committee for National Security and the Customs Service were instructed to take the necessary measures aimed at preventing the export of U.S. cash dollars,» the statement says.
