Parliament of Kyrgyzstan rejects draft law on taxi licensing

Deputies of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan rejected the bill on licensing and permit system in the Kyrgyz Republic, having considered it in the first reading.

Deputy Marlen Mamataliev proposed to the Cabinet of Ministers to develop alternative ways of earning for owners of right-hand drive cars, who, if the document is adopted, will be left without work.

«Sixty percent of taxi drivers drive right-hand drive cars. Will the Cabinet of Ministers be able to subsidize purchase of left-hand drive cars for them? It is necessary to temporarily abolish duties on left-hand drive cars from Europe,» he said.

MP Seyidbek Atambayev proposed to postpone the bill for two years or return it for revision.

According to the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Oktyabr Urmanbentov, 16,994 cars in Kyrgyzstan are involved in passenger transportation, half of which are right-hand drive.

As a result of the voting, 56 deputies opposed the bill.
