The Bishkek City Court considered a measure of restraint against the ex-governor of Jalal-Abad region Bektur Asanov.
Lawyer Adilet Sydykov noted that the detention was unreasonable and illegal.
«My client is being kept in custody without any legal evidence. We received a decision on opening of a criminal case with significant violations and belatedly. The investigator did not provide a search protocol, which is also a violation. Bektur Asanov himself does not plead guilty, because he did not commit anything illegal,» Adilet Sydykov said.
Leaving the deliberation room, the judicial board read out the ruling, leaving the decision of the Pervomaisky District Court unchanged. Bektur Asanov will be kept in custody until December 20.
The Committee for protection of Kempir-Abad reservoir was created on October 22. It includes activists, politicians and MPs. On the same day, in an interview with Kabar news agency, President Sadyr Japarov said: the authorities have information who was behind the rallies and marches on Kempir-Abad issue.
