The number of rapes has decreased in Kyrgyzstan. Press service of the National Statistical Committee reported with reference to the data of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to the supervisory authority, in general, a decrease in crimes is observed in the country.
At least 23,300 crimes were registered in the republic from January to June 2022, which is 0.7 percent less than in the same period of 2021. The vast majority of crimes (more than 63 percent of their total number) were committed in Bishkek and Chui region.
Statistics also show a 30 percent decrease in grave and especially grave crimes.
It is stressed that the main part of the violations (more than 73 percent) were crimes against property. Compared to January-June 2021, their number in the country as a whole increased by almost 12 percent, which is mainly due to an increase in the number of thefts (1.4 times), cases of robbery (by 15 percent) and plundering (by 5 percent).
Along with this, a decrease in the number of cases of extortion (2.5 times) and fraud (by almost 24 percent) was registered.
The National Statistical Committee noted that the number of crimes against a person in the republic increased 1.4 times compared to January-June last year.
«The number of cases of rape and attempted rape decreased 1.9 times, causing grievous bodily harm — by 4.4 percent and murders — by 2.1 percent,» the statement says.
However, the number of crimes related to drug trafficking increased by almost 23 percent. The largest share of such crimes (about 62 percent) is associated with the possession of drugs with the intent to sell them, and about 32 percent — with the possession of drugs without the intent to sell.
The largest decrease in the number of crimes, according to the National Statistical Committee, was registered in Issyk-Kul (by 33.7 percent), Talas (by 24.1 percent) and Osh (by 18.4 percent) regions.
