President of Kazakhstan unveils bust to writer Mukhtar Auezov in Cholpon-Ata

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited the house-museum of Mukhtar Auezov, located in the city of Cholpon-Ata in Kyrgyzstan, as part of the 4th Consultative Meeting of Heads of Central Asian states. 24.kz reports, citing the press service of Akorda.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev unveiled the bust to the Kazakh writer in his house-museum.

«The head of state visited the house-museum in Cholpon-Ata city, unveiled the bust to Mukhtar Auezov and left a note in the book of honored guests,» the statement says.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was met by the ex-president of Kyrgyzstan Roza Otunbayeva, State Secretary Suyunbek Kasmambetov and the Minister of Culture Azamat Zhamankulov.

The house of Mukhtar Auezov in Cholpon-Ata was built in 1959.

The writer lived and worked in this house in 1959-1961, and also began writing his last novel «The Young Tribe» there, but did not finish it.

Official opening of the library-museum of Mukhtar Auezov took place in September 1970.

The museum stores the personal belongings of the writer: a table, chairs, a rocking chair, an armchair-bed, a table clock, a hanger, a bookcase, and books. The first 5,000 copies of the library’s books were collected on the initiative of the writer’s daughter, Leyla Mukhtarovna. The book fund of the library is about 12,000 books.

Workshops, reader conferences and meetings are held at the library-museum.
