Kyrgyzstan plans to abandon carbon energy by 2050. Director of the Climate Finance Center under the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision Dastan Abdyldaev announced at a meeting of the regional project «Climate Change and Sustainability in Central Asia» in Bishkek.

«By 2030, Kyrgyzstan, with the help of the international community, sets a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 44 percent. By 2050, on the platform of green development, the republic will try to achieve carbon neutrality. The locomotive of a carbon-free policy will be renewable energy sources, primarily hydropower,» he said.

It should be noted that a kick-off meeting of the regional project «Climate Change and Sustainability in Central Asia» is held in Bishkek today. It aims to support climate resilient development in Fergana valley in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

The meeting was organized by the United Nations Development Program in Kyrgyzstan and the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision.
