At least 56 percent of people in Kyrgyzstan consider wiretapping unacceptable. It was announced at a presentation of the analytical report by Civil Society Initiative programs of the University of Central Asia.
The research is devoted to assessment of the level of civil knowledge, social activity, prevalence of different socio-political views and values and the need for civic education among the population of the country.
It says that 46 percent of respondents are convinced that law enforcers have the right to conduct video surveillance of citizens in public places.
«Probably they should monitor emails and messengers,» 31 percent of respondents believe.
It is worth reminding that on May 25 the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan passed a package of laws on national security in three readings.
It stipulates that the State Committee for National Security, which is the initiator, will wiretap and conduct surveillance without the permission of the prosecutor’s office.
Another trend noted by the experts is that 74.5 percent of Kyrgyzstanis named good manners as one of their values. Religion was named as a value by 56 percent, and family — by 92 percent.
Only one-third of Kyrgyzstanis (33.1 percent) consider independence as a value.
