New concept of social protection of the population based on international standards will be developed in Kyrgyzstan. The Minister of Labour, Social Security and Migration of Kyrgyzstan Kudaibergen Bazarbaev said at a meeting with UNICEF Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic Christine Jaulmes, WFP Acting Country Director in the Kyrgyz Republic Ram Saravanamuttu and other representatives of UN agencies in the country. Press service of the Ministry of Labor reported.
It was noted at the meeting that the ministry has reached a sufficient level of targeting in setting and paying all types of social benefits. But new challenges are emerging that carry risks for vulnerable groups of society (crises, pandemics, wars, natural disasters), and the ministry needs to change its working methods towards adaptive social protection.
According to Kudaibergen Bazarbaev, a new document will be developed after an assessment of the system of social protection of the population.
«Such an assessment has already been carried out or is currently being carried out in 18 countries, including Uzbekistan and Armenia. A map of the elements of the social protection system will be formed, including national goals and strategies; effectiveness of the existing system will be analyzed, and alternative reform options will be determined. It is very important to introduce new active measures aimed at stimulating low-income and poor families to take active steps to overcome their difficult life situation,» the minister noted.
