Construction of school buildings damaged during conflict completed in Batken

Construction of school buildings that were damaged during the Kyrgyz-Tajik border conflict has been completed in Batken region. Press service of the State Agency of Agriculture, Construction, Housing and Communal Services reported.

According to it, construction of educational facilities has been completed in Kyzyl-Bel, Borborduk and Churbek villages. As of today, the necessary equipment and school furniture have been installed, the facilities are ready for the start of the educational process. The schools are designed for 775 students.

The state agency noted that the construction of sports halls at these schools is at the completion stage.

«Construction of two kindergartens for 240 additional places is at the completion stage. The new educational institutions provide all the necessary conditions for the education and development of children,» the agency noted.

The state agency reminded that work on the construction and overhaul of eight social facilities in Batken and Leilek districts, damaged during the Kyrgyz-Tajik conflict, began in May. At least 309,800,000 soms were allocated from the republican budget for these purposes. Overhaul of two schools and a medical and obstetric center completed in September 2021.

The border conflict began on April 28, 2021 in the area of ​​Golovnoy water distribution point in Kok-Tash village, Batken district. A verbal skirmish developed into a brawl: the sides began to throw stones at each other. Then the shooting began.

At least 183 Kyrgyzstanis sought medical help, 36 people died, including children. The Tajik side unofficially reported more than 150 wounded and 16 dead.

More than 33,000 people were evacuated from the conflict zone.
