Almambet Shykmamatov tells about new evidence of Tekebayev’s innocence

Lawyers of Omurbek Tekebayev appealed to the Prosecutor General’s Office with a request for a review of the criminal case upon newly discovered evidence. Leader of Ata Meken parliamentary faction Almambet Shykmamatov told 24.kg news agency.

According to him, additional evidence of the innocence of Omurbek Tekebayev and the former head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Duishenkul Chotonov has been found.

«In particular, it has been found out that Leonid Maevsky has never withdrawn $ 24 million from his account at VTB Bank. Earlier, he stated that the money in parts — $ 300,000 and $ 700,000 — from May to July 2010 was withdrawn by him for transfer in the form of a bribe for a controlling stake in MegaCom. His guard Sergey Kutukov has never came to Bishkek and has not brought any money to Omurbek Tekebayev and Duishenkul Chotonov. And in general, he did not come to Kyrgyzstan in 2010. He told it to the investigators of the FSB of Russia,» the deputy commented.

According to Almambet Shykmamatov, there is also a tabulation of telephone conversations of Alexey Modin, made on May 13, 2010.

«It confirms that the time at which Modin allegedly met with Tekebayev and Chotonov in Supara is false. Since during this period he was driving around the city,» he added.

The deputy notes that all these aspects are reflected in the petition of lawyers Chinara Dzhakupbekova and Taalaigul Toktakunova.

According to Almambet Shykmamatov, on April 23, the Supreme Court will review Tekebayev-Chotonov case on the basis of the newly discovered evidence in connection with entry into force of the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code. But the decision on the revision of the criminal case should be made by the Prosecutor General. A new investigation must be conducted.

Omurbek Tekebayev and Duishenkul Chotonov were sentenced to eight years in prison with confiscation of property. The courts of all instances found them guilty of corruption.

In November, the Tverskoy Court of Moscow arrested the former deputy of the State Duma, the main witness in Tekebayev — Chotonov case, a businessman Leonid Maevsky. He was accused of extorting $ 37.5 million for non-proliferation of defamatory information. Leonid Maevsky faces up to 15 years in prison. In this regard, the defendants also intend to insist on the speedy review of their case.
