The prosecutor’s office for Issyk-Kul region opened a criminal investigation into the infection of newborns with osteomyelitis in Karakol maternity hospital. Press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.
The supervision body checked Karakol maternity hospital due to information published in the media and citizens’ statements about the infection of newborns.
«The inspection revealed that the doctors of the indicated maternity hospital delivered babies of four applicants, and later all the newborns were diagnosed with osteomyelitis. The doctors of the maternity hospital and the Issyk-Kul Regional Combined Hospital did not timely detect this illness. As a result of improper performance of official duties and failure to take measures for timely treatment, the disease developed and has led to disability of the children,» the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.
Based on the results of medical and social expertise, the Karakol Social Development Department registered the newborns as children with disabilities.
The supervisory agency clarified that several more similar facts of infection of infants in the Karakol hospital are being checked.
The criminal case was opened under the articles «Improper performance of professional duties by a medical worker» and «Negligence» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
