Presidential candidate Omurbek Babanov yesterday made an emergency statement in connection with the detention of Kanatbek Isaev by the State Committee for National Security. The latter is accused of trying to seize power.
Omurbek Babanov is sure that if Kanatbek Isaev did not supported him in the pre-election race, he wouldn’t have such problems.
The candidate for presidency considers Kanatbek Isaev as a principled man and calls on law enforcement bodies to approach the investigation impartially, and journalists - not to distort facts.
«I don’t finance Kanatbek Isaev and other supporters. I don’t know what kind of money he gave out and where they come from. I think he will explain everything by himself during the investigation. There (in a video that was posted on the Internet) is not a word about a coup or seizure of power. This is the party that filmed the video provoked it,» Omurbek Babanov said.
The politician said that he has never met with representatives of criminal circles himself, and added that he knows which candidate the members of the organized criminal group support now. However, Omurbek Babanov didn’t mention the name of the candidate.
«I hope that President Almazbek Atambayev will check the situation and ask Abdil Segizbayev (chairman of the State National Security Committee) to approach the investigation as unbiased as possible,» he said.
