The CEC of Kyrgyzstan commented on the statement of a number of deputies of Ata Meken parliamentary faction about the date of the presidential elections.
Such statements mislead the public about the date of the election of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic.
«As for the date of the next presidential elections, the Central Election Commission is guided by the Constitution and the constitutional law «On Elections of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Parliament." Article 61 of the Constitution establishes that «the president is elected for six years by citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic." Part 1 of Article 48 of the above-mentioned law stipulates that «regular presidential elections are held on the third Sunday of November of the year in which the term of office of the president for which he was elected expires and are appointed by the Parliament not later than 4 months prior to the election day," the text days.
T he previous presidential elections were held on October 30, 2011. The six-year term of office of the current president expires in 2017. In accordance with the above mentioned rules, regular presidential elections should be held on the third Sunday of November 2017, that is, on November 19, the CEC notes.
