The head of Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Atambayev, received the president of Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty Media Corporation Thomas Kent at his personal request, the Information Policy Department of the President’s Office reported.
Thomas Kent noted that Kyrgyzstan has always differed from other countries in the region by its desire for democracy and respect for freedom of speech. «We see this and therefore are very interested in continuing cooperation. Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty has a good working experience in Kyrgyzstan," he said.
Almazbek Atambayev stressed that the concepts of freedom of speech and justice always had a special significance for the people of Kyrgyzstan, and today the country is going through a difficult stage in the way of building a legal, democratic state where people respect human rights and freedoms.
Kyrgyzstan values the achieved level of freedom of speech and openness, which are the most important components of a democratic society. However, unfortunately, not everyone understands that the existing freedom of expression in the country imposes a special responsibility on the media. The media should work honestly and objectively to prevent the discrediting of freedom of speech by gaining power of fake technologies. Almazbek Atambayev
