Maternal mortality in Kyrgyzstan declined in 2026, with 10 cases recorded during the first six months of the year. Chief specialist Raisa Asylbasheva said at a meeting at the Ministry of Health.
According to her, 26 cases were registered during the same period in 2025.
This represents a 61.5 percent decrease in maternal mortality.
Cases of maternal deaths were recorded in Bishkek and Osh, as well as in Talas, Issyk-Kul, Batken, and Jalal-Abad regions.
By location of medical care, eight cases occurred in healthcare facilities of various levels, while two occurred outside medical institutions.
Raisa Asylbasheva added that one case occurred during pregnancy, eight during childbirth or the postpartum period, and one outside the pregnancy period.
The main causes of maternal mortality were sepsis (three cases), hemorrhage (three cases), extragenital diseases (three cases), and severe hypertensive complications (one case).
Each case of maternal mortality is reviewed at quarterly meetings of the national headquarters, where comprehensive measures are being implemented to further reduce maternal mortality.
