Food prices in Kyrgyzstan: Agriculture Ministry reports rising, falling costs

The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan conducted a comparative monitoring of food prices in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Russia.

In Kyrgyzstan, prices for carrots increased by 7 percent, pasteurized milk (2.5–3.2% fat) by 2.1 percent, and mutton by 1.3 percent. Slight increases were also recorded for tandoor bread (0.4 percent), vermicelli, and pasta (0.2 percent).

At the same time, prices declined for onions by 6.9 percent, potatoes by 4.6 percent, butter by 0.9 percent, sunflower oil and first-grade wheat flour bread by 0.6 percent. Imported first-grade flour fell in price by 0.5 percent, while rice price decreased by 0.1 percent.

In Kazakhstan, the sharpest price increases were recorded for potatoes (11.9 percent), onions, and locally produced first-grade flour (7.1 percent). Meanwhile, prices decreased for rice (7.3 percent), eggs (5.7 percent), bread (3.8 percent), and beef (3.1 percent).

In Russia, price growth was more moderate. Onion prices rose by 0.8 percent, potatoes by 0.5 percent, carrots and sugar by 0.3 percent, vermicelli and beef by 0.1 percent. At the same time, prices decreased for eggs, mutton, butter, flour, milk, and sunflower oil.
