The Ministry of Defense of Kyrgyzstan issued an official statement regarding reports of ordnance falling from an aircraft.
According to the ministry, on March 31 at approximately 5.25 p.m., a Su-25 aircraft from the Russian airbase in Kant, while conducting training flights using training air-launched munitions (dummy munitions), experienced an unauthorized release of two training-practice munitions during the third training turn. The ordnance fell on an uninhabited area. No casualties or damage were reported.
The command of the Russian Aerospace Forces has decided to appoint a special commission, which is expected to arrive in the near future.
By decision of the Minister of Defense of the Kyrgyz Republic, training flights have been suspended pending clarification of the causes of the incident.
Law enforcement agencies of Kyrgyzstan are carrying out investigative measures, and the Military Prosecutor’s Office is conducting a review into the incident.
