Six cases of bride kidnapping have been registered in Kyrgyzstan in the first six months of 2024. Eliza Shalbaeva, Senior Investigator of Major Crimes of the Investigative Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, told.
According to her, five of these cases were sent to court, and one case was dismissed due to the lack of corpus delicti. Similar offenses against minors have not been registered. Two cases of forced marriage were recorded during the same period, one case of which was sent to court, and the second was dismissed due to the lack of corpus delicti.
In addition, 21 cases of conducting a marriage ceremony with minors were registered, 70 percent of these cases were sent to court, three cases were dismissed due to the lack of corpus delicti.
Eliza Shalbaeva added that the punishment for bride kidnapping is from 5 to 7 years in prison. If minors are kidnapped, the punishment is from 7 to 10 years of imprisonment. Such offenses are registered without a statement, since they are included in the category of serious crimes of public prosecution.
