Trolleybuses will be completely removed from Bishkek. The Mayor of the city, Aibek Dzhunushaliev, said this in an interview with Kabar news agency.
According to him, the city will be cleared of trolleybus lines, then modern, mobile buses will start running.
«We do everything to create comfortable conditions for citizens. We remove not only billboards, but also trolleybus lines. All power lines and cables are laid underground. Trolleybuses can only move along one route, and we cannot temporarily redirect them to other streets. That is, they can only travel along their own lines, and during some closures, it is impossible to change their route. Electric buses and other public transport are more mobile, and in solving problems with traffic jams in the city, their route can be changed; such a solution is impossible with trolleybuses,» he said.
Aibek Dzhunushaliev noted that the number of passengers who use trolleybuses is decreasing every year. If 8 million people used them in 2023, then in 2024 — by 3 million less.
He added that servicing trolleybuses is exorbitantly expensive — more than 200 million soms are subsidized from the budget.
Earlier the municipality proposed to hand over 100 trolleybuses to Osh, and to dismantle the contact network in Bishkek, which caused concern among some citizens.
