Since the beginning of the year, 2,316 cases of measles have been registered in Kyrgyzstan. The press center of the Ministry of Health provided such data with reference to the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis.
Most of the cases were registered in Bishkek — 660, Osh region — 654, Osh city — 302 and Chui region — 277.
The main reason for the increase is a decrease in the coverage of children and adults with routine immunization against measles and rubella.
«In order to reduce the circulation of measles virus, localize the outbreak and prevent its further spread, the Ministry of Health is conducting an additional immunization campaign against measles and rubella, which began on September 18 and will last until September 29 in the territory of the republic, where the most active circulation of the virus is registered. This is Bishkek, Osh, Osh and Chui regions among children from nine months to seven years old inclusive, regardless of vaccination status or previous measles and rubella disease,» the ministry said.
Coverage of children with additional immunization against measles and rubella from September 18 to September 26 reached 55 percent of the target group.
