Deputy proposes to bury citizens at expense of state

Deputy of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan proposes to allocate 16,000 soms for funerals to citizens. MP Marlen Mamataliyev said at a meeting of the Committee on Constitutional Legislation, State Structure, Judicial, Legal Issues and Regulations.

The deputy proposes a new law «On burial and funeral business.»

If the document is adopted, 500 million soms will be required per year from the budget. The money will be allocated to bodies providing funeral services. These 16,000 soms include the cost of transporting the body and fencing the grave.

«Unfortunately, from birth to death, we are faced with corruption. To see the deceased off to their last journey is a big problem today, requiring financial expenses. People take loans to organize funerals. We all know about the shortage of land in cemeteries, money is also demanded there, some people book a place for burial in advance. And when receiving a death certificate, we also face corruption,» Marlen Mamataliev said.

The MP said that the Ministry of Finance has not yet supported the bill, saying that there is no money.
