Short film about influence of TV propaganda released in Kyrgyzstan

Premiere of a short film about influence of television propaganda took place in Kyrgyzstan. Creators of the film told 24.kg news agency.

According to them, the short film «The Bunker» is a 15-minute sketch about how the state propaganda on TV negatively affects millions of people, distorting the perception of reality and leaving them in ignorance of what is happening «in the outside world.»

«We showed a cold and damp bunker where five women sew military uniforms day after day, they eat and watch TV in their spare time. No one has looked towards the massive metal door that leads upstairs for a long time. After all, the TV announcer made it clear that there is death behind it,» they told.

Film director Adilet Makenov noted that the movie is intended to think about the need to develop critical thinking, the ability to use fact-checking tools and carefully check the information received from TV and social media.

«Every day we see people sharing tons of unverified information on social media without thinking about how it can affect people who don’t have fact-checking tools. Our parents, who are used to trusting the talking heads on TV, are at high risk. With this movie, we wanted to show how manipulation of information can lead to dire results,» he stressed.

The short film was made in 2023 jointly with Kazakhstan and Ukraine. The main role in the movie was played by Kyrgyz actress Saikal Zhumabekova, and the supporting role was played by Kazakh actress Aidana Abpasova. The film also starred Ruslan Kharizov, Nurilya Matieva, Nurkyz Tungatarova, Ryskul Kubanychbek kyzy, Janyl Chyngysheva and Alina Fursova.
