Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund to finance 2 projects for $89 million

Meeting of the Council of the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund (RKDF) was held in Moscow (Russia). The Ministry of Finance reported.

Participants of the meeting considered financing of projects for 2023. During the negotiations, allocation of funds for the implementation of two strategically important projects for Kyrgyzstan was approved for a total of $89 million. Lending will be provided on a preferential basis.

The first project provides for the construction of Kulanak hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 100 megawatts in Naryn region. The RKDF will provide $44 million for its implementation. The project will contribute to ensuring the energy security of the Kyrgyz Republic and reducing the energy deficit in the country by 18 percent. In addition, 770 jobs will be created during the construction period and 97 — after commissioning of the facility.

As part of the second project, the fund will allocate $45 million for the construction of a new modern cement plant in Chui region. Its capacity will be 1.5 million tons of cement per year. This will allow to replace imports for more than $47 million a year. The project provides for creation of 450 jobs.
