At least 100 cases of food poisoning were registered in Kyrgyzstan for 10 months of 2022. Press center of the Ministry of Health reported.
According to it, 437 people suffered.
A quarter of food poisoning cases is botulism — 25 cases with 34 patients.
«Two cases with a severe form of botulism were registered only in the last two weeks,» the ministry said.
The causative agent of botulism is the anaerobic bacillus Clostridium botulinum, which can develop without oxygen. It is capable of producing the most powerful poison in nature. Botulism mortality in cases of untimely seeking medical help reaches 70 percent.
Symptoms of botulism appear after consumption of a contaminated product within 2-36 hours, but sometimes the incubation period can last 8-10 days. Most often, a person becomes ill after 12-24 hours.
In most cases, botulism has an acute onset. It can develop immediately in several family members or acquaintances who consumed canned salads or cucumbers, mushrooms, eggplants or other vegetables and meat products the day before.
