The leader of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who announced plans to call snap presidential election this year, promised an amnesty for the participants of the January events. Tengrinews agency reports.
According to the media outlet, the head of the Republic of Kazakhstan specified that the amnesty would be applied to those citizens who are not charged with serious crimes.
«The amnesty will not be applied to the main defendants involved in staging the riots and accused of high treason and the attempted violent change of power,» Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.
He addressed the people at a joint meeting of both Houses of Parliament. He made his last speech in March 2022. Then the Kazakh leader presented a new program of political reforms and a number of social and economic measures.
