Council of the Moscow State University decided to award the Academician Askar Akayev the Lomonosov Prize of the 1st degree. Website of the university reports.
The decision of the Academic Council of the Moscow State University was reportedly taken unanimously. Askar Akayev became the first scientist from Central Asia who was awarded this prestigious prize.
Askar Akayev specializes in quantum electronics, optical processing of information, the theory of computation and macroeconomics. He is the author of 150 scientific works, including monographs, textbooks, seven inventions and 20 books.
Askar Akayev is the first president of the Kyrgyz Republic. He was overthrown on March 24, 2005 and fled the country with his family. After a long break, he arrived in Bishkek in the summer. However, his visit was connected with the criminal case on Kumtor — the former head of state was interrogated by the State Committee on National Security (SCNS).
He arrived in the capital again on December 14. After the interrogation by the SCNS, the former president entered into a plea bargain and made a confession. Within few days of his visit, Askar Akayev managed to visit his birthplace in Kemin district and his mother-in-law in Talas.
