Prime Minister: Shadow economy in Kyrgyzstan reaches 24 percent

At least 24 percent of the republic’s economy is the shadow one. The Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Mukhammedkaly Abylgaziev announced at a conference «Kyrgyzstan: National Dialogue on Regional Development.»

According to him, due to the shadow economy, the state budget loses 40 billion soms in taxes each year.

Mukhammedkaly Abylgaziev believes that if at least 20 billion soms are brought out of the shadow, the shortage of schools, kindergartens and the renewal of road infrastructure issue could be resolved in three years.

According to the National Statistical Committee, the volume of shadow economy in the country amounted to 125.2 billion soms (23.6 percent of GDP) in 2017.
