“Ayka” film about Kyrgyz migrant enters Oscars shortlist

«Ayka» film directed by Sergei Dvortsevoy entered Oscars shortlist. Website of the film award says.

The movie is presented in the Foreign Language Film category. The shortlist includes eight more films: «Birds of Passage» (Colombia), «The Guilty» (Denmark), «Never Look Away» (Germany), «Shoplifters» (Japan), «Capernaum» (Lebanon), «Roma» (Mexico), «Cold War» (Poland) and «Burning» (South Korea).

The social drama «Ayka» is the result of the joint work of representatives of five countries (Russia, Kazakhstan, Germany, Poland and China).

«Ayka» is the story of a young migrant from Kyrgyzstan who works illegally in Moscow. The movie tells about her inner growth, motherhood, which she loses, and then regains.

The 91st Oscars awarding ceremony will be held on February 24, 2019 at the Dolby Theater (Hollywood, Los Angeles).
