«I believe that cooperation in the field of security should remain the key activity of the SCO," the President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev said at a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Astana.
According to him, «counteraction to three evil forces must remain at the center of our primary attention, and in this regard, it is necessary to improve the mechanisms of cooperation between our states.»
«The spread of the ideology of radical extremism, the propaganda and recruitment of the citizens of our SCO member states into the ranks of the ISIL and terrorist organizations are of serious concern. And in this regard, we need to improve the effectiveness of the regional anti-terrorist structure. And the fact that we are adopting today the SCO convention on countering terrorism, this will also be a definite contribution to the fight against terrorism," Almazbek Atambayev said.
Recall, the SCO meeting is being held in Astana on June 8–9, where the heads of delegations exchange views on the international and regional situation, security issues and development of cooperation within the SCO in the political, economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres.
